Pre-Treatment Advice
Preparing for Your Skin Blemish Removal Appointment
At The Skin Blemish Nurse, your safety, comfort and wellbeing are my priority.
Preparing your skin correctly before treatment can help support effective results, encourage healthy healing and minimise the risk of complications.
Please take a moment to read the following guidance before your appointment.
Before Your Appointment
Sun Exposure & Tanning
Avoid excessive sun exposure, sunbeds and self-tanning products on the treatment area for approximately two weeks before your appointment.
Treatment may need to be postponed if your skin is sunburnt, irritated or damaged.
Skincare Products
Avoid using retinol, retinoids, exfoliating acids (such as AHAs and BHAs), chemical exfoliants and other potentially irritating active skincare products on the treatment area for approximately 5–7 days before treatment, unless advised otherwise.
Do not discontinue prescribed skincare medication without consulting your prescribing clinician.
On the Day of Treatment
Please arrive with clean skin, ideally free from make-up, moisturisers, oils or other products on the area being treated.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the treatment area where appropriate.
Medical History & Medication
Please inform The Skin Blemish Nurse of any relevant medical conditions, allergies, medication or supplements.
It is particularly important to disclose:
A history of poor wound healing or abnormal scarring.
Diabetes or conditions affecting healing.
Use of anticoagulants or medication affecting bleeding.
Immunosuppressive medication or conditions affecting immunity.
Recent skin infections or active inflammation.
Pregnancy or breastfeeding, where relevant.
Previous treatments or procedures involving the same area.
Please do not stop taking prescribed medication without medical advice.
Your Consultation & Skin Assessment
Before treatment, a thorough consultation and skin assessment will be undertaken.
This includes reviewing your medical history, examining the blemish and discussing the most appropriate treatment options.
You will be informed about the procedure, expected healing process, potential risks and likely results.
Some skin lesions may require assessment by your GP or dermatologist before cosmetic treatment can be considered.
Treatment will only proceed where it is clinically appropriate and you have provided informed consent.
Clinical Photography
As part of my professional indemnity insurance requirements, before-and-after clinical photographs are necessary.
These photographs help document your treatment and monitor your results.
They are stored securely as part of your confidential clinical records and will never be used for marketing or social media without your separate, explicit consent.
When to Contact the Clinic Before Your Appointment
Please get in touch if:
You develop an infection, rash, cold sore or irritation near the treatment area.
You experience significant sunburn.
You start new medication or experience a change in your health.
The blemish changes in size, shape, colour or appearance.
You are unsure whether your skin is suitable for treatment.
Your appointment may need to be postponed if treatment is not considered appropriate or safe.
A Final Note
Every individual's skin is different, and treatment suitability will always be assessed on an individual basis.
My aim is to ensure you feel informed, comfortable and confident before proceeding with your treatment.
If you have any questions before your appointment, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
