Aftercare Advice
Caring for Your Skin Following Treatment
At The Skin Blemish Nurse, your care doesn't end when you leave the clinic.
Following advanced electrolysis and skin blemish removal, your skin needs time to heal naturally. Following the correct aftercare advice is essential to support healing, minimise complications and achieve the best possible results.
Every treatment is different, and you will receive personalised written aftercare instructions by email following your appointment.
What to Expect Following Treatment
It is normal to experience some temporary skin reactions following advanced cosmetic procedures.
Depending on the treatment performed, these may include:
Mild redness and swelling.
Tenderness or sensitivity around the treated area.
Small crusts or scabs forming as the skin heals.
Temporary changes in skin colour.
Mild dryness or tightness.
These reactions generally settle as the skin heals, although healing times vary depending on the procedure, treatment area and individual skin response.
Caring for Your Skin
Keep the Area Clean
Keep the treated area clean and follow the cleansing instructions provided during your appointment.
Avoid unnecessary touching or rubbing, and always wash your hands before handling the treated area.
Do Not Pick or Scratch
Small crusts or scabs may develop following treatment.
Allow these to fall away naturally. Picking or scratching can increase the risk of infection, scarring and pigmentation changes.
Avoid Excessive Heat
Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, swimming pools and strenuous exercise for approximately 48 hours, or longer if advised.
Excessive heat, sweating and friction may irritate the treated skin.
Skincare & Make-Up
Avoid applying make-up directly to broken or healing skin until the surface has healed sufficiently.
Do not use retinol, exfoliating acids, scrubs or other potentially irritating active skincare products on the treated area until the skin has healed and you have been advised it is safe.
Only apply aftercare products recommended for your treatment.
Sun Protection
Protect the treated area from direct sunlight while healing.
Once the skin surface has healed sufficiently, use a broad-spectrum SPF 50 sunscreen to help reduce the risk of pigmentation changes.
Avoid sunbeds and excessive sun exposure during the healing period.
How Long Will Healing Take?
Healing varies depending on the blemish treated, the technique used, the size and location of the treatment area, and your individual skin response.
Some superficial areas may heal within one to two weeks, while others can take longer.
Residual redness or pigmentation changes may take several weeks or months to settle.
Please be patient and allow your skin to heal naturally.
Your Complimentary Six-Week Review
At The Skin Blemish Nurse, a complimentary review appointment is offered approximately six weeks after your initial treatment.
During this appointment, we can:
Assess how your skin has healed.
Review your treatment results.
Take follow-up clinical photographs where required.
Discuss any questions or concerns.
Assess whether further treatment may be beneficial.
Your six-week review is complimentary. Any additional treatment required will be assessed and charged separately.
All additional treatment costs will be explained and agreed before proceeding.
When to Contact the Clinic
Please contact The Skin Blemish Nurse if you experience:
Increasing redness, swelling or pain rather than gradual improvement.
Unusual discharge or pus.
Increasing warmth around the treated area.
Delayed healing or any unexpected skin changes.
Any concerns about your recovery.
If you develop rapidly spreading redness, fever or feel significantly unwell, seek urgent medical advice through NHS 111 or an appropriate urgent care service. Do not wait for your six-week review.
